On June 17th, I had the priviledge of being invited to attend the Allergan MD Code Master Class held in Toronto. This invitation was restricted to only 15 Aesthetic Physicians in the country and was taught to us by world-renowned injector Dr. Mauricio de Maio, a Plastic Surgeon from Brazil and the creator of the MD Codes.

What is the MD Codes Approach?

The MD Codes is a revolutionary step-by-step approach to using dermal fillers guiding the injecting physician on how to recreate the most desirable and natural facial architecture for patients. It is a precise, methodical and strategic approach to analyzing and treating a patient’s face. Instead of focusing directly on the problem areas, Dr. Di Maio’s MD Codes, target the source of the issues through a series of precise injection points on the face. This results in greater benefits for the patients in both the immediate and longer term. It is Dr. Di Maio’s philosophy that by targeting the causes of sagging and volume loss and by treating an aging face holistically, patients receive better, longer-lasting and achieve optimal and natural looking results from their treatments.

What Areas do the MD Codes Address?

The face is defined by a total of 75 MD codes, each representing an individual subunit of the face. With precise injection points, low injection volume, specific injections techniques (some with needle, some with cannulas, some using micro bolus, some using linear or fanning technique) and respecting one’s individual profile, the MD Code Approach can deliver safe and predictable results in the following areas:

  • the Temples,
  • the Forehead,
  • the Brows,
  • the Cheeks,
  • the Under Eye area,
  • the Nasolabial area,
  • the Marionette lines,
  • the Jawline,
  • the Lips
  • and the Chin.

Even after 17 years of injecting fillers, I found this day spent with visionary Dr. Di Maio, alongside 14 of the best injectors in this country, to be invaluable to my professional development. It has further deepened my understanding and expertise in this continuously evolving industry. I am very excited to bring this knew knowledge to my practice and integrating this exciting MD Code approach when assessing and developing a dermal filler treatment plan for my patients.
