Preparing Yourself for Your First CoolSculpting® Treatment
Are you tired of fighting a losing battle against those last little stubborn pockets of fat? Not anymore.
Non-invasive body contouring technologies like CoolSculpting® offer effective solutions for those who can’t shed small amounts of stubborn with a healthy diet and exercise alone.
CoolSculpting®, in particular, uses cold energy to destroy fat cells and is one of the few non-invasive, non-surgical treatments available for permanent removal of fat.
If you’re considering this treatment, follow this guide to get the most out of your CoolSculpting® treatment and learn more about what to expect both during, and after the procedure.
Preparing for CoolSculpting®
By this point, you will have had your consultation and are gearing up for your first CoolSculpting® appointment. Since the procedure is non-invasive, there is typically not much that needs to be done in terms of preparation. However, here are a few things you can do ahead of your appointment to help make the treatment more comfortable:
- Bring something to keep you occupied, such as a tablet or book
- Eat a snack beforehand to prevent light-headedness or nausea during treatment
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing
What to Expect During a Treatment
Before the treatment begins, your Coolsculpting technician will apply a clear gel pad to the area you would like to be treated to create a barrier between the cooling panel and your skin.
Once the procedure starts, you will feel a sucking sensation as the applicator adheres to your body. You may also start to feel pulling, tugging, mild pinching, intense cold, tingling, stinging, aching, and cramping at the treatment site. However, this will subside as the area becomes numb.
During the procedure, you will be able to sit back and relax, giving you time to read, surf the web, or answer emails.
Once it is finished, the applicator will be detached, and your coolsculpting technician will vigorously massage the area for 2 minutes to help break up the crystalized fat cells and improve the fat reduction.
What to Expect After a Treatment
After a CoolSculpting® treatment, your body will begin to naturally process and eliminate the dead fat cells. Most patients can expect the fat in the treated area to be reduced by 20% to 25%.
However, it’s important to know that results are not immediate. While patients can start to see results around one-month post-treatment, full results are not typically seen until the three-month mark.
Are There Any Side Effects?
Most patients require little to no downtime after a CoolSculpting® treatment, however, side effects can include:
- Temporary redness at the treatment site
- Skin sensitivity
How to Alleviate Discomfort Post-Treatment
Since CoolSculpting® is a non-surgical, non-invasive procedure, anesthesia is not often used, and pain medications are not typically prescribed.
However, your doctor may recommend that you take over-the-counter pain medications to help ease any post-treatment discomfort or pain.
Do not take any pain relievers immediately before your CoolSculpting® treatment, as doing so can worsen side effects like bruising.
Here are a few other natural ways to control any pain or discomfort after CoolSculpting®:
- Deep breathing exercises and meditation
- Light exercise
- Applying a warm compress to the treated area
- Massage therapy
How to Improve Your Results and Maintain Them
Keep in mind that most people will require multiple treatments to reach their desired results.
However, here are a few ways you can boost your CoolSculpting® results before having to go in for another treatment.
Massaging the treated area for a minimum of two minutes right after the CoolSculpting® applicator is removed can help to improve fat reduction in the treated areas by 68%.
Your techinician will likely perform the massage using vigorous kneading motions followed by a circular movement using the pads of the fingers.
Drink Lots of Water
While there is no scientific proof to support this theory, many doctors recommend that patients who undergo CoolSculpting® increase their water intake after treatment. The reasoning behind this is that a hydrated body will be more effective at flushing out waste and toxins, which will help with the fat removal process.
After a CoolSculpting treatment, it takes time for the dead fat cells to break down and be flushed out of the body, so maintaining a healthy diet is critical to ensure you see the best possible results and maintain them.
Be sure to cut back on processed foods and sugary snacks, and try to eat lots of whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and proteins.
Besides a healthy diet, increasing your exercise regimen will also help you see faster results after your CoolSculpting® treatment.
And while CoolSculpting® does permanently eliminate stubborn pockets of fact, because it is not a weight loss solution, you can still gain weight back in the treatment areas and all over the body if you do not maintain a healthy lifestyle.
How Often Can You Get CoolSculpting® Treatments?
Since it can take anywhere between a few weeks to four months after your first CoolSculpting® procedure to see the full, final results appear, it’s best to wait as long as possible before scheduling another session.
So, if you’re considering a second treatment to help remove more fat from the previously treated area, try to wait at least 16 weeks, as scheduling your sessions too close together can impact the effectiveness of the treatment.
If you have gained weight since your last CoolSculpting® treatment, it is best to wait until you have reached your target weight before you go in for another session.
Remember that CoolSculpting® is not a weight loss procedure, so you will not achieve the results you were hoping for if you are looking to lose 10 or more pounds.
Just like any cosmetic procedure, CoolSculpting® can be a bit uncomfortable and cause some mild discomfort after the treatment. However, by preparing yourself for what to expect, the procedure will be a breeze, allowing you to focus on the incredible results you will soon see.
