Have you ever woken up, looked at yourself in the mirror and noticed a new wrinkle around your eye, a new mole or a brown spot? And you could swear it was not there just the night before! I have and it is the most infuriating and mind boggling phenomena. How is that even possible you may ask. How can one go to bed and seemingly, within the span of one night, develop a new permanent line?
Aging is one of those life changes that sneaks up on us. How these changes occur is actually quite complex and the result of multiple factors such as genetics, environmental, hormonal, life habits and some as a result of the skeletal changes that occur with aging. One day you’re thirty with radiant, firm skin, youthful facial curves and fullness, and the next (or so it seems) you are fifty, with dull skin, brown spots, broken facial capillaries, sunken eyes, hollow temples, downturned mouth, flat cheeks, double chin and descended jowls. Over my 17 years in practice, I have heard countless patients say to me that when looking in the mirror they no longer recognized the person looking back at them. They say, this mirror image is more like their mother or an older version of who they are. “I still feel young inside and the person looking back at me in this mirror looks old and does not reflect how I feel inside at all…please help!” The good news is that nowadays we have many non-surgical treatment options to give us back some of that glow and fullness. Here is a brief description of some of these options:
Botox to Soften Wrinkles
Nothing compares to Botox when it comes to softening lines and wrinkles for the forehead, around the eyes and the frown lines. Botox Cosmetic is, in my opinion, the best overall anti-aging agent. If I had to pick only ONE treatment that I would do on a regular basis to prevent and treat my aging signs, it would be Botox Cosmetic without hesitation. Botox treatments only take a few minutes, are comfortable and involve no downtime. Full results are seen in 4-10 days and will last 3-4 months.
Dermal Filler to Restore Volume and Contour
Dermal fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane consist of a gel made of hyaluronic acid, a substance we have naturally in our skin but loose over time. Dermal Fillers are unparalleled at restoring lost volume whether it be in the temples, cheeks, laugh lines, tear troughs, lips and chin. The results of dermal filler injections are immediate, completely natural looking and last 6, 9 or 12 months depending on the filler chosen. When a client says to me they feel like they look sad, tired, older or drawn, it is usually because of the combined effects of the lost volume in their cheeks, laugh lines and marionette lines. In those cases, dermal filler treatments can do absolute wonders at restoring youthful curves, creating a lifting effect and removing years off their overall appearance.
Chemical Peels for Skin Clarity
Chemical peels use one or a combination of several acid solutions to remove old, dead cells from the outer layers of skin. Chemical Peels can reduce age spots, fine lines, acne, brown spots and wrinkles caused by sun damage or aging. The Vitalize Peel that we have in our office, contain a mix of Lactic acid, Salicylic acid, Resorcinol and Retinoic acid. Peels usually only take 15 minutes to apply. Typically, over the next few days, your skin’s upper layers will peel, revealing a newer, smoother and more glowing looking skin. It is usually recommended to do a series of peels for better results.
Thermage for sagging skin
When it comes to saggy, crepe-like skin and falling jowls, the solution is Thermage CPT. This device uses bulk energy to heat the skin’s deep layers and to tighten the collagen fibers. This heating both stimulates new collagen formation and shrinks the existing collagen fibers, which results in more “tightened” skin. Only one 1.5 hr session is required. Results can be seen immediately, continue to improve for the 6 months that follow the treatment and last about 1.5 – 2 years. There is zero downtime with this procedure. Thermage CPT can be done for the face, neck and also for the droopy eyes lid.
Belkyra and CoolMini to Eliminate the Double Chin
Having a define jaw line is a sign of beauty and youth. Up until very recently, individuals with excess fat under their chin had no other option to address this issue than with surgery. Now however, two new treatment options have become available to deal with this issue non-surgically. One method is done by injections (Belkyra) and the other by destroying fat by exposing it to controlled cooling with Coolsculpting. Both options are equally effective and the choice as to which one is the best for you will depends mainly on the amount and distribution of the subcutaneous fat in that area.
Fraxel Dual Non-Ablative Laser Resurfacing for Pores, Fine lines and Hyperpigmentation
Non ablative lasers treat the deeper layers of the dermis without damaging the outer layer of the skin. This helps your skin make collagen, reduce fine lines, improve tone and remove brown discoloration. Non ablative lasers are especially good at treating melasma. The recovery time is only a few days and the results is a more radiating skin. For the best results, plan on four to six treatments with 6-8 weeks in between each treatment.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Skin Rejuvenating
Similar to lasers, IPL goes below the surface to a deeper layer of skin however the energy of IPL is different than lasers in that it is more diffuse and uses a broad spectrum of light. IPL is ideal for patients with dullness, rosacea, small broken vessels and sun damage. The treatments take 30 minutes, discomfort is minimal and requires no downtime. 3-5 sessions are usually recommended for optimal results.

With all these great options, it can seem overwhelming to decide which treatment will be the best for you. Don’t hesitate to come talk to me about your concerns. I will guide you through the process and together we can design the best treatment plan for you.
