SkinMedica™ Vitalize Peels
Powerful, Reliable Skin Rejuvenation
The Vitalize Peel is a chemical peel that uses retinoic acid as its base, which is the gold standard for skin rejuvenation. It is a powerful agent in fighting the negative effects of aging, sun exposure, free radicals, and environmental assaults, while also being gentle on the skin. The Vitalize Peel can repair years of damage to the skin in just minutes.
Frequently Asked Questions About the Vitalize Peel
How will the Vitalize Peel improve my skin?
The Vitalize Peel is a clinically proven formulation that:
- Increases collagen and skin thickness
- Smooths and corrects fine lines
- Fades age spots and hyperpigmentation
- Repairs photodamaged skin
- Diminishes wrinkles
- Improves skin texture and tone
- Treats mild to cystic acne
How does the Vitalize Peel work?
The Vitalize Peel employs a strong yet gentle-to-the-skin formulation, combining a unique blend of 0.3% retinoic acid, alpha-hydroxy acid (lactic acid), beta-hydroxy acid (salicylic acid), and resorcinol. This safe combination of peeling agents causes a chemical exfoliation of the outer layer of the skin. In turn, this exfoliation prompts the skin to regenerate, thus creating a fresh, thicker, healthier-looking epidermis. In other words, it produces more youthful-looking skin.
Is there any discomfort with this peel?
The Vitalize Peel is a no-downtime procedure. It takes about 20 minutes to administer. It is very tolerable and requires no pre-medication. During the treatment, clients may experience a mild tingling sensation. This mild feeling (similar to the sensation of windburn) may persist after the peel for one to three days. The skin will also have a light yellowish hue when leaving the office, which will gradually disappear over the next hours or so.
When can I resume my normal activities after having a Vitalize Peel?
Again, this is a no-downtime procedure. Clients can return to their normal activities immediately after a treatment. Clients will likely have mild to moderate peeling of the skin for a few days after their procedure. This can be easily alleviated with a good moisturizer.
How fast will I see results after doing a Vitalize Peel?
Although some results can be seen after just one Vitalize Peel, the best and more dramatic results from Vitalize Peels are seen after the completion of a series of 6 peels. These are usually performed at 3-week intervals. Maintenance peels can be performed once a month or every second month after the initial series is completed.*
Are there any limits to who can receive a Vitalize Peel?
While the Vitalize Peel is one of the few chemical peels that is totally safe for all skin types and complexions, you should avoid a Vitalize Peel if you:
- Have skin rashes, allergies, or other skin existing skin conditions
- Have an allergy to Aspirin or salicylate
- Have been on Accutane within the past year
- Are pregnant or currently breastfeeding
- Are under the age of 12
When can I resume my normal skin care routine after receiving a Vitalize Peel?
You can resume your normal skin care regime once the peeling process is complete, including using any product with retinols, AHA products, Vitamin C, or bleaching creams. If you are unsure about the active ingredients of one of the products you are currently using, ask Dr. Tosoni for some clarification.
What sort of aftercare can I expect?
It is recommended that you take extra precautions with sun exposure by using a daily sunscreen (a minimum of SPF30) and limiting your direct sun exposure for at least 1 week after your Vitalize Peel. You should also avoid strenuous exercise for two to three days, as perspiration may irritate the skin.
Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and avoid scrubbing. Especially be careful to avoid “helping” the skin to peel by manually removing the skin that is peeling off. It is best to moisturize the skin instead.
Finally, avoid any other facial treatment for at least one week after your Vitalize Peel.
